Born in Recife, Brazil, and raised in Round Rock, Texas—a town 20 miles north of the Live Music Capital
of the World, Lucas Sousa’s journey to becoming a Texas Country singer-songwriter was inevitable.
Moving to the United States at the age of six, music was what Lucas describes as his first language.
While his parents, who only spoke Portuguese, raised him on Forró, a Brazilian folk genre, Lucas
discovered his own passion for country music, drawing influences from the legends like Willie Nelson,
Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings. As his musical taste broadened, he became
captivated by Texas Country Red Dirt music, with artists such as Randy Rogers Band, Parker McCollum,
Ruston Kelly and Mike Ryan shaping his sound.
Lucas first picked up the guitar when he was 14-year-old, and by the time he had turned 15, he had
puzzled together a band that consisted of his childhood friends. Lucas quickly began playing across
Texas, making his debut at the Freddie Powers Pickin' Party. Over the years, Lucas built a reputation for
himself, performing at countless venues throughout the state and paying his dues to earn his place in the
Texas music scene. After high school, Lucas attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas,
where he graduated in 2023. It was during this time that he took the leap into creating his own original
music, putting the last few years down on paper. In 2021, he released his debut single, Too Close,
followed by his debut album, Aces & Eights.
Although country music has always been Lucas' preferred genre, when he sat down to write the songs
that would later be released on his debut album, his goal was not to write songs that catered to any one
specific genre; his goal was to simply write what came out, letting the music flow. “Growing up in Austin
had a lot to do with this. In Austin, you can walk into one bar and hear a blues band playing Stevey Ray
Vaughn, you can go to the bar next door and hear an 80s rock cover band, and the bar next to that one is
playing nothing but 90s country classics. There’s so much variety and versatility; that’s something that
really influenced me,” Lucas said.
This unfiltered approach to songwriting has connected him with fans across Texas, and his music
continues to speak to those who appreciate authenticity and individuality. His rise in the Texas music
scene culminated in winning the 2024 Chilifest Battle of the Bands, securing a spot at the prestigious
Chilifest Music Festival. Lucas's musical influences go beyond country music. Growing up with a wide
range of genres has shaped a unique sound that’s anything but ordinary. His music is often described as
abstract, heartfelt, vulnerable, and genuine. In a Texas music scene where conformity can sometimes
reign, Lucas stands out by creating a fresh, organic sound that defies easy categorization.
Having shared the stage with artists like Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen, Randall King and Sam
Riggs, Lucas Sousa is steadily building a fanbase that’s growing with every performance. Keep an eye on
this rising star—catch him at a venue near you, and experience firsthand the unique sound that is Lucas
Sousa.
